Egg sharing
We have a strict protocol for the sharing of the eggs between provider and recipient. If 6 or more eggs are collected they will be equally divided between the provider and recipient. In the event of an uneven number the provider will receive the extra egg. The embryologist will make the decision as to which eggs each party will receive and will use his or her best endeavours to ensure that the quality of the eggs will be evenly divided.
If fewer than 6 eggs are obtained the provider will be given the option of using all the eggs herself. There will be no additional charge for this. If 3 or less mature follicles develop the providers cycle will be cancelled and no egg collection will be performed.
You should also be aware that an egg provider may withdraw or vary consent in respect of any embryo created using her eggs at any time until the time of embryo transfer. However there would be financial consequences of doing this. This is discussed in detail under ‘payment for egg sharing’
On the day of the egg collection, half of your eggs will be fertilised with the sperm of your husband/ partner. The remainder would be donated to the recipient and fertilised with the sperm of her husband/partner. Embryos form over the next 3 days and yours would be replaced in your uterus. The recipient would also have her embryos replaced on that day. You would both find out if you were pregnant 2 weeks later.
The choice of recipient is up to the Clinic and we will not be able to give you any information about the recipient.
